SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE------part 2 (Fiction)”

Andrey parked the car as calmly as he could. He swallowed hard before alighting and slamming the door shut. With easy calculated steps, he made his way to the reception. No one had any idea the amount of pressure his heart was under as it continued to pound viciously. He scanned the waiting area. The gloomy faces around him did not help matters. One woman sat silently at a corner and wept. Some men stood around her with clenched fists and misty eyes. You never know what people have to deal with every day.

Approaching a nurse, Andrey spoke up. Good day. Please I’m looking for my wife, Ana. She was rushed here a short while ago. His voice trailed off as Katrine ran to him.

Thank God you are here. Come with me. The urgency in her voice made him panic.

They half walked, hall jogged past a corridor, up a flight of stairs and through another maze of weeds till they reached a private ward. There were two beds. Ana lay in one, a pint of blood plugged to her arm and a ventilator strapped to her nose. He had no idea when tears began to stream down his face. He rushed to her, grabbed her arm and fell to his knees.

Ana My Ana!! He whispered as he looked into her eyes.

She managed a weak smile as her pale eyes tried to focus on her husband. He squeezed her hand as she motioned for him to calm down.

Croaking, and in-between sobs,  he began to sing his favourite song.

Thank you, thank you, Lord
Thank you, thank you, Lord
For everything you have done
We celebrate your faithfulness.

Katrine squeaky voice joined in. soon, they both began to feel the intensity of God’s presence. It seemed as though a soft gently across the room as they continued singing and worshiping. A halo of sorts began to glow around Ana’s head, Andrey heart leapt for joy. God was up to something.

Just then, Ana hand went limp.

Andrey opened his eyes to see his wife staring into nothingness as the heart monitor began to beep. It seemed she had flatlined. Katrine grabbed his shoulder as he tried to reach for the buzz button to alert the nurses. The door flung open as his hand reached for the button. He waited with bated  breath as the nurse practically flew past him to his wife. As she turned to look away from the monitor, the nurse froze. Andrey was torn between giving her an uppercut and slamming her against the wall. How could she just stop when his wife life was in danger?

What happened? The nurse whispered as she looked towards the other bed at the far side of the room.

Andrey and katrine turned to see an elderly lady standing by the side of the bed grinning from ear to ear.

Two nurses, a matron and two other doctors rushed in to attend to Ana as the first nurse just stood still perplexed.

It’s a miracle, the elderly woman whispered.

Yes, Mrs. Williamas, it’s a miracle, whispered the bemused nurse as Ana was wheeled out of the ward. I’m sorry, Mr Andrey, the nurse began. But this woman has not spoken or moved in three years. She has been in coma.

Andrey didn’t know what to say as he looked at the woman standing and smiling while his dead wife was being wheeled out.

What exactly was going on?
